ViewSonic PA503W home/business projector

  • Brightness: 3600 ANSI Lumens
  • Resolution: 1920 x 1080p Full HD( 1200X 800 ) WXGA
  • Display: DLP
  • Contrast: 22000:1
  • Throw Distance: 3.28ft – 36.02ft
  • Screen Size: 30-300 inches
  • 3D Compatible
  • Lamp Life: up to 15,000 Hours
  • Warranty: 3 years

If you want a complete solution for home and business. I would recommend this ViewSonic PA503W. It offers excellent advanced features for an affordable price. So, this is second-best under 500 bucks projector on our list.

Viewsonic is a WXGA DLP projector. It comes with 3600 Lumens, which ensures fantastic color accuracy with a contrast ratio of up to 22000:1. That is why we get an excellent image quality. It supports 1.1x optical zoom with vertical lens (+/-40 degree). Unlike previous version PA503X, its aspect ratio is 16:10.

Pros & Cons:

What I like:

  • It uses DLP technology instead of LCD.
  • It comes with a big projector screen, which can project up to 120 inches.
  • Like BenQMH530FHD, it also uses superEco technology, which is responsible for a better lamp life. It can last up to 15,000 hours.
  • The connectivity of this projector is also flexible as it allows you to connect media players, Mac, PC, and smartphone with input units, including HDMI, VGA, and others.
  • ViewSonic offers a 3-years of warranty with this projector.

What I don’t:

  • It comes with a single HDMI port.

I found this projector the best for education and small business. However, Earlier BenQ MH530FHD was good in 2019, but somewhat, it is ideal for home users. On the other hand, ViewSonic offers more contrast and aspect ratio than BenQ. That’s is why I took it at the second position on our list.

2. BenQ TH585 1080P – Home Entertainment Projector Under 500

BenQ TH585 Home Theater Projector

  • Full HD resolution 1080p
  • 3500 Lumens of brightness
  • Low Input Lag
  • 10W built-in Speaker
  • Lamp Life up to 15,000 Hours
  • Digital Lens Shift
  • BenQ’s three years of warranty

The TH585 is a True Full HD projector coming from the popular projector’s brand BenQ. Talking about its brightness, the TH585 offers 3500 ANSI lumens and is equipped with a 10,000:1 contrast ratio. Compared to other same category projectors, I found its brightness and contrast a balance of the ultimate viewing entertainment.

Though it uses several modes to enhance the overall picture quality, even in a bright room, depending on the environment, you can use it for different types of content, such as shows, movies, sports, streaming, and online gaming.

On the other end, I love the fact that the TH585 is more like a gaming projector. Considering four different gaming scenes—role-playing, action, sports, and party games—and from multiple entertainment sources, its low input lag with 16ms response time handles every situation like a boss.

Other features, such as portable projection, 1.1x zoom, digital lens shifts, and vertical keystone, are completely praisable. These features come in handy while setting up, adjusting through distance, ability to adjust the projection heights, and perfect alignment, relatively. So I don’t mind giving it 10/10 for its setup.

Pros & Cons

What I like

  1. Very bright, crisp, and sharp; it has multiple options for brightness
  2. Digital Lens shift and vertical keystone are incredible
  3. Sound output
  4. dedicated viewing modes, including gaming mode
  5. Low input lag, 16ms low latency

What I don’t

  1. Its built-in Speaker, especially when setting it up for a home theater feel

After extensive research and comparing with popular brands, such as ViewSonic and Optoma, I found the BenQ TH585 the perfect projector for a true home theatre viewing experience. As watching movies and playing games are the main core uses of any home theater projector, it did a great job for every type of content. However, if you go for 3D movies, you’ll need to buy a compatible 3D glass separately.

3. Optoma HD146X – Best For Movies & Gaming

Optoma HD146X

  1. Brightness: 3600 ANSI Lumens
  2. Resolution: 1920 x 1080p
  3. Display: DLP
  4. Contrast: 25,000:1
  5. 16ms input lag
  6. 3D Compatible
  7. Lamp Life: up to 15,000 Hours

Optoma HD146X is another option if you want a home theater projector. However, Above both, projectors are also good for home users, but they are less expensive. That’s why I took this projector in the third position on my list. Being an expensive projector, it offers excellent features and advanced technologies if compared to others.

The Optoma HD146x is a full HD DLP home projector. It comes with 3600 Lumens of brightness. From approximately 13–14 feet, it can project a 120 inches image. It also supports MHL with screen project size from 28 to 301 inches. Unlike BenQ and ViewSonic, it has 10w in-built speakers.

Pros & Cons:

What I like:

  • An excellent full HD resolution 1920 x 1080.
  • It comes with 1.1x optical zoom
  • Extended impressive Lamp life up to 15,000 hours.
  • It comes with multiple input ports
  • Installation and setup of the projector are quite straightforward.

What I don’t:

  • A bit noisy

Under 500 bucks, this projector offers excellent features, whether it is its resolution, contrast ratio, or brightness. If you are a big-screen fan, then you won’t find any better projector than this. However, it is a bit pricey if compared to others, but worth the money.

4. ViewSonic PX701HD – Gaming and Outdoor Movie Nights

ViewSonic PX701HD

  • Brightness: 3500 ANSI Lumens
  • Resolution: 1920 x 1080p
  • Display: DLP
  • Contrast: 12,000:1
  • SuperEco+ Mode
  • 3D Compatible
  • 10W speaker
  • Lamp Life: up to 20,000 Hours

When it comes to gaming projector under 500, the only projector comes to mind is ViewSonic PX701HD. I consider it a better option for both home and gaming. So this is my fourth projector on the list.

The ViewSonic Px700HD is a Full HD (1920×1080 resolution) and 3d compatible projector. However, it is not a short-throw projector, just a normal one. But, it comes with reduced input latency in order to improve the gaming experience. Plus, it has SuperColor technology which ensures a wide color range for a perfect image.

Pros & Cons:

What I like:

  • Lamp life is fantastic; it can last up to 20,000 hours.
  • We can expect smooth images without delay from this projector.
  • Gamer won’t be disappointed as it comes with reduced input latency, which is ideal for action-packed gaming.
  • Incredible color accuracy
  • It comes with dedicated sports mode with SuperColor technology.
  • It offers extensive connectivity options such as dual HDMI and USB.

What I don’t:

  • Lack of horizontal keystone.

ViewSonic has designed this projector keeping gamers in mind. That’s is why ViewSonic has put its extra efforts in order to improve the gaming experience. Whether it is cinematic colors or reduced input latency, in results, we get smooth images without any delay.

  6. 8W Speaker
  7. DLP Display Technology

Anker is one of the best players in the projector world. Its Nebula series has its own demand when it comes to battery-powered projectors. The biggest challenge for a mini portable projector has been its brightness and display technology. However, Anker has changed its market by offering 200 ANSI brightness with its powerful Anker Nebula Capsule Max projector and entering a brighter world.

It gives flexibility to the screen with amazing Vibrant detail ranging from 40 inches to 100 inches big. Since the projector is battery-powered, carrying it to your favorite place is child’s play. Besides, it can entertain you for up to 4 hours, depending on the content quality. However, in my testing, It was around 3.2 hours straight on one charge.

Another good thing about the projector is its built-in 8W speaker. The speaker is loud enough to pump out the high-quality sound around your favorite place. For better sound, I’ll suggest you buy an external speaker to pair with it. In case of connecting an external speaker, you have an option of Bluetooth connectivity. You just need to go through its Bluetooth settings.

Even though the projector boasts high contrast and brightness, watching content is eye-strain-free. Therefore, it might be an ideal option for your kids for their school projects and online classes. Besides, it offers universal wired and wireless compatiblity options. Wired users have HDMI and USB options, while wireless users can connect their devices using Miracast, Airplay, and, of couse, Bluetooth.

Pros & Cons:

What I like:

  1. Native 1280x720p resolution
  2. 200 ANSI lumens of brightness
  3. Its wired and wireless connectivity options
  4. Nebula Connect App, available on Google Play and App Store.

What I don’t like:

  1. Its speaker could be improved.

The Anker Nebula Capsule Max is the perfect pick for people who want to take their projector everywhere, wherever they go. It is suitable for watching movies in your yard and trips with your friends and family.

With one charge, you’ll be able to watch two full movies in HD quality over 100 inches big screen as it lasts up to 3 hours to 4 hours. However, It would be better if it were water-resistant and offer better sound quality.

Moreover, It utilizes an LED light source for delivering a high-quality bright image with the maximum projection size of up to 300 inches. I found its color accuracy up to the mark while keeping the image sharp and detailed compared to other same range projectors.

Two other eye-catching things about the projector are its double-sided cooling system and temperature control technology to tackle the heat dissipation of the fan. Additionally, it automatically adjusts the fan’s speed and detects the light source temperature in order to prevent overheating.

What I like:

  1. Its brightness and contrast

Most projectors under 300 dollars offer native 720p, while the Y31 natively supports full HD 1920x1080p resolution resulting in crisper and more detailed image production. Therefore, it is a suitable option for both home theater and business purposes. In addition, you can use it outdoors to enjoy outdoor movie nights with your loved ones.

Buying Guide: The Final Criteria Which Helps You In Finding The Best Projector Under 500 Dollars.

When it comes to buying the best projector under 500, make sure you are following some considering points, which I use in order to buy a good projector, to make a good deal and smart choice. It actually doesn’t matter what is your intention to buy the projector, whether you’ll be using it for gaming, entertainment, or office. The criteria or key factors will be the same.

So let’s get into these nine considering key factors in order to buy a great 500 projector.

1. Type of a projector

It is as clear as it should be, the only two types of projectors you can find on the market these days: DLP & LCD.

I am not saying that DLP is better than LCD or LCD is better than DLP. In my opinion, both have their advantages and disadvantages in terms of picture quality, motion, and price.

Let’s compare them with each other:

  • 1. As compared to LCD, you might see more sharp picture quality with this type.
  • 2. When it comes to 3D, you have to stick to this DLP.
  • 3. DLP projectors are brighter than LCD.
  • 4. It ensures fast motion if compared to LCD.
  • 1. Dark color’s rendering has always been a problem with DLP types of projectors.
  • 2. You possibly might face rainbow effect issues.

  • 1. If compared to LCD, it is not as bright as DLP.
  • 2. No issue with dark color’s rendering.
  • 3. It is cheaper than DLP.
  • 1. It is not good or ideal for 3D.
  • 2. Fast motion is not as good as DLP.

2. Screen Size

I consider the screen size of the projector the second most important key factor. However, I am not talking about the screen which you see on the projector. Actually, it is a projector’s projection size, which we see on the wall or projector’s screen. You can use the projector with its maximum and minimum size.

It all depends on the surface you want your projector to project upon. Moreover, the distance between the projector and the screen also matters. So, you have to keep the distance in mind too while setting up a projector.

3. Brightness

Brightness has always been a crucial task while setting up a projector. It matters a lot because it can give you a headache. So, the only thing you can do is to determine the brightness level as per your location, requirement, or needs.

Let me explain, Suppose you are using your projector somewhere which is quite dark, then you can simply go with 1000 lumens. It would work perfectly. In other words, any 1000 lumens projector would be a better option for the night.

However, if you intend to use a projector in daylight or as outdoor, then go with a brighter projector with around 3000+ lumens. It is my own experience as I tested it with all the different lumens.

4. Contrast

Just like the brightness of a projector, the contrast also works in the same way. Basically, it is a difference between dark and light, meaning an image you see on the screen can be more contrast or dimmer. So, you have to make sure you’re buying a projector that has a good wide contrast range.

5. Resolution

It is as simple as it sounds, in order to get better picture quality, the projector required a better resolution. However, it is not going to be that simple as most of the projectors come with a fixed resolution. So, we should have a projector that has a wide array of fixed resolution that can allow you to choose according to your needs.

It is also obvious that you have to spend more money when it comes to buying a high-resolution projector. If you wish to see the best quality images, go with any best outdoor projectors.

6. Throw Distance

As you know, the distance between the projector and the screen is responsible for clearer image quality, right? So, throw distance means you can get a clear image even after the maximum distance can your projector have. In other words, it simply lets you know how far you can put your projector until the screen gets blur image. And this range may vary by projectors. Usually, the projectors allow extending the range from a couple of feet to 15 feet.

But, if you buy an expensive projector, then this range can be up to 30 feet. When the distance is concerned, It is up to you which projector you should buy according to your distance requirement.

7. Bulb Life

When it comes to buying a projector, people first think of bulb life. How long will it be alive? Yes, it is a very important key factor that should come to your mind as it is the most expensive part of a projector.

So, if bulb life is concerned, I would suggest that your projector must have a bulb life up to 10,000 hours or more.

When the Connectivity comes to our mind, we first think of a wireless or wired connection, right? Yes, both options are available for you: Bluetooth and HDMI. However, if you connect it via HDMI cable, you’ll get a better picture quality. So, make sure your projector has these connectivity options.

9. Compatibility

The last thing which I want to include in this guide is the compatibility of a projector. Make sure your projector supports both Mac and PC.

So consider these nine key factors and keep them in mind before buying your first projector. Whether it is outdoorgaming,  4k, or even under 500. You will be able to make a smart choice.

FAQs: Most Common Questions Answered

Which Projector will be best for Home purposes under 500?

There is no doubt, our first projector on the list – ViewSonic PA503W can easily outrank others if home and small business projectors are concerned.

How much should I spend on projectors?

It entirely depends on your needs. If you want to buy a good projector for outdoor uses, then you have to spend around 500 to $1000. On the other hand, if want for indoor purposes, then go for a projector that comes under 500.

Can I expect a 4K projector under 500?

No, you can’t. I didn’t find any 500 projector that offers 4k resolution. Meaning, you have to spend some more or check my article ‘best cheapest 4k projectors of 2021.’

Is 500 Lumens enough for a projector?

In 2021, I would say – No. However, the 100″ screen projection requires only 350 lumens, according to SMPTE (the motion picture technicians). If you want a good quality image on your screen, then it is recommended that you go for a projector that offers at least 1000 lumens.

What projectors can I use with my 3D glasses?

Any projector that offers DLP technology as most of the DLP projectors are designed for 3D technology so that we can use them with 3D glasses. However, it doesn’t mean that all DLP types of projectors support 3D technology. Moreover, you also have to make sure the content which you intend to play should be 3D as well.
